Learn to Swim

We are committed to excellence and specialise in delivering high quality water safety and swimming lessons. Whether students are first timers, wanting to improve strokes, learn new strokes or improve endurance levels, we have the class for you! Students are encouraged and guided through our structured program whilst progressing at their own pace. Lessons incorporate water familiarisation, water safety, stroke development and stroke correction in a balanced and well organised program.

Learn to Swim

Water safety and learning to swim are essential SKILLS FOR LIFE and provide us with the confidence to enjoy aquatic environments and activities. At iSwim2 we teach our students these critical skills in a friendly, fun, encouraging and non-threatening environment. iSwim2 Swim School operates from the Handbury Centre for Wellbeing located at Geelong Grammar School. We are a boutique swim school; our program caters for students aged from 12 months, we have small class sizes, lessons are delivered by experienced AUSTSWIM qualified teachers and we have lots of fun! Lesson Classes

1 year to 3 years

Infants – maximum 6/class

  • Safe entries and exits
  • Social engagement through song and activities
  • Independent movement
  • Submerging/ floating/rotation/gliding and kicking
  • Coordinating leg and arm actions
  • Water safety activities

All activities for this age group is with parent/carer participation, with and without parent/carer support or aids, using appropriate baby holds and using cue words

3 years to 5 years

Pre-School (Beginners) – maximum 3/class

  • Confident safe entries and exits
  • Improved water confidence, independent movement with and without aids
  • Relaxed and confident bubble blowing
  • Submerging and breath control
  • Front and back floats with vertical and lateral rotation
  • Front and back glides and recover
  • Front and back flutter kicking
  • Additional water safety activities: rescues/sculling/entries (deep water)
  • Assisted and unassisted jump entry – back float, lateral rotation, return to the wall
  • Assisted seated dive

Children are independent of a parent or carer from this level. Sometimes your child may need you in the water with them as an emotional support. Please be acceptable for the intervening time it takes your child to be comfortable learning without you.

    4 years to 6 years

    Pre-School (Intermediate) – maximum 4/class

    • Efficient front, back and side kicking
    • Basic freestyle and backstroke
    • Unilateral breathing
    • Survival backstroke
    • Additional water safety activities: rescues/sculling/entries (deep water)/treading water
    • Forward somersault
    • Assisted seated dives
    • Jump, back float, lateral rotation and return to the wall
      5 years and Up

      After School (Beginners) – maximum 4/class

      • Confident safe entries and exits
      • Improved water confidence, independent movement with and without aids
      • Relaxed and confident bubble blowing
      • Submerging and breath control
      • Front and back floats with vertical and lateral rotation
      • Front and back glides and recover
      • Front and back flutter kicking
      • Additional water safety activities: rescues/sculling/entries (deep water)
      • Assisted and unassisted jump entry – back float, lateral rotation, return to the wall
      • Assisted seated dive
        5 years and Up

        After School (Intermediate) – maximum 5/class

        • Efficient front, back and side kicking
        • Basic freestyle and backstroke
        • Unilateral breathing
        • Survival backstroke
        • Additional water safety activities: rescues/tows/survival skills and strokes/sculling/treading water/entries (deep water)
        • Forward somersault
        • Assisted and unassisted jump entry – back float, lateral rotation, return to the wall
        • Assisted seated dive
          7 years and Up

          Advanced – maximum 5/class

          • Efficient front, back and side kicking and an efficient streamlined body position
          • Bilateral breathing
          • Efficient freestyle swim 15m, using advanced technique
          • Efficient backstroke swim 15m, using advanced technique
          • Survival backstroke and sidestroke
          • Freestyle and backstroke tumble turns
          • Dives – deep water only
          • Additional water safety skills: rescues/tows/ survival skills and strokes/sculling/treading water/entries (deep water)
            7 years and Up

            Advanced – maximum 5/class

            • Efficient front, back and side kicking and an efficient streamlined body position
            • Bilateral breathing
            • 50m advanced freestyle and backstroke
            • Breaststroke: timing, sculling, paired arm and leg action, breathing
            • Breaststroke swim 25m, using advanced technique
            • Butterfly: kicking, paired arm and leg action, recovery, breathing, timing
            • Butterfly swim 25m, using advanced technique
            • Backstroke, Breaststroke and Butterfly starts and turns
            • Standing dive- deep water only
            • Survival backstroke, sidestroke
            • Additional water safety skills: rescues/tows/ survival skills and strokes/sculling/treading water/entries (deep water)
              • Skills taught are technique based and swum over shorter distances and increased as confidence and competencies increase
              • Appropriate water safety skills taught according to the students’ ability level
              • Students’ progress at their own rate and while encouraged to learn they are not forced beyond their capabilities
              • The water temperature is set at 29+ degrees. Whilst this temperature is suitable for learning some children still feel the cold. If your child feels the cold I have on sale swim attire suitable to keep them warmer
